The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 10

Nora raised an eyebrow. His choice of words was a little strange, but she didn’t ask.

“Thanks.”

Dennis got into the back, leaving the passenger seat for Nathan.

At six-foot-three, his frame looked cramped in Nora’s small car. Nora cleared her throat, a little embarrassed. “The seat adjustment is over there.”

“Right.”

Nathan adjusted the seat, but it was a small car, and his legroom was still limited.

Nora quickly looked away. “Sorry, it’s a tight fit. Where do you live? I can drop you off first.”

Nathan grunted in acknowledgment but didn’t give an address.

Nora frowned and was about to ask again when Dennis spoke up. “You can drop me off first, Dr. Hayes. Thanks for the trouble. I need to get back and tell my uncle what’s going on. I live in Westfield Gardens…”

Nora nodded, starting the car. “Just call me Nora when we’re outside of work.”

Dennis readily agreed.

“I assume you’ve heard about the DNA test results?” Nora directed her question at Nathan.

The serial rape-murders had caused quite a stir in Luminport City, and Olivia Reed was the fourth victim discovered this year.

Besides the unusual DNA, the time of her death was also completely different from the previous three.

The serial killer was clearly methodical; the first three victims had been killed two months apart, spanning a total of six months.

But the fourth victim, Olivia, had been killed less than a week after the third.

“Yes,” Nathan nodded, the contours of his face looking sharp and severe in the glow of the streetlights.

“Finding semen that doesn’t belong to Suspect A at this stage means one of two things: either details of the rape-murders were leaked, leading to a copycat, or Suspect A is feeling the pressure and is trying to find someone to divert the police’s attention.”

Nora analyzed the case calmly, her brow furrowed the entire time.

Dennis exclaimed with admiration, “No wonder everyone says there’s no case Dr. Hayes can’t handle. Turns out you don’t just perform autopsies, you know a lot about detective work too.”

Before Nora could speak, Nathan shot him a look. “Forensic examiners and detectives are on the same team.”
