Nathan frowned, seemingly uninterested in the topic. He just grunted, and the conversation died.
Nora took the hint and said no more.
Come to think of it, she seemed to have a strange connection to the name Peyton.
Only, the elder Mr. Peyton was a director on the board of a corporation, while the man before her was the newly appointed detective captain at the police department.
If only Nathan was the elder Mr. Peyton’s grandson.
But she immediately dismissed the thought.
What was she thinking?
It was obviously impossible…
The old man's grandson was either a high-level corporate executive or a successful CEO who had started his own business. Why would he ever become a detective?
Besides, she had heard Nathan's name even before she met the elder Mr. Peyton.
She just hadn’t known back then that this was the face that went with the name.
They had driven some distance before Nora realized Nathan still hadn't told her where he lived.
She couldn't help but glance at him.
The man caught her subtle movement almost instantly and turned his head quickly. Their eyes met.
Nora felt herself drowning in the fathomless, dark intensity of his gaze.
"The light's green."
Nathan's soft reminder made Nora blink, realizing she had been staring at him, completely lost in thought.
"Ahem!"
"You still haven't told me where you live."
Nora used the question to cover her embarrassment. Nathan's gaze fixed on the road ahead, a tiny curve forming on his lips. "I live in the same complex as you."
Nora was taken aback.
"How do you know where I live?"
Nathan remained calm. "The department recommended it when I transferred. They said this complex is close to the station, and a lot of colleagues live here."
It dawned on Nora. "Oh, so that's how…"
Nathan said no more, and Nora focused on driving.
The car soon entered the complex. Just as Nora was about to ask which building he lived in, he spoke first. "I'm in the same building as you."
