The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 116

Nolan fumed. He was about to pull out his phone and complain to his father, but a glance at the half-eaten bag of spicy jerky and the water bottle in his hand made him pause.

What if she was telling the truth?

Nolan couldn't figure it out. He stomped his foot. "If I find out she was lying, I swear I'll make her regret it!"

With that, Nolan found a number and dialed it. "Hey, I need you to run a background check on someone for me. Her name is Nora. Yeah, focus on her relationship with her father…"

Nora returned to the coffee shop just as Nathan was walking out.

"That was fast."

Nathan raised an eyebrow when he saw Nora.

His gaze fell on the car she was driving. "What's this?"

Nora replied, "It's Julia's. I'm just borrowing it."

Nathan pressed his lips together and stepped aside to let her pass.

"Where did you go?"

"Just sent a difficult rich kid packing."

Nathan's eyes narrowed. "What happened?"

Nora didn't go into detail, only mentioning that she had been forced into a meeting with a spoiled heir and had scared him off with a few choice words.

A slight smile touched Nathan's face.

"That doesn't sound like something you'd do."

"And you know me so well, Nathan?"

"I do," Nathan replied simply.

As Nora gave him a quizzical look, he added, "I make it a point to get to know every member of the task force."

"Is there a reason for that?"

They were picking work partners, not going on a date.

Did he really need to know that much?

"It's a personal habit."
