Nathan waited for a long time, but Nora's car never appeared behind him.
His intuition screamed that something was wrong, that something had happened. But he was already on a one-way street and couldn't turn around; he had to keep driving forward.
While driving, Nathan found the coffee shop's phone number and called, telling them there was an incident in their parking lot and demanding they review the surveillance footage.
The coffee shop employee informed Nathan that they weren't authorized to directly access the footage.
Nathan immediately stated his official identity.
"I'm turning around up ahead. I'll be right there. Please, hurry!"
Hearing the serious tone in Nathan's voice, the employee didn't dare treat it as a joke and quickly contacted security.
The coffee shop staff sprang into action, but after a thorough search, they couldn't find the car Nathan had described.
"Impossible. She was right behind me! Where's the surveillance footage?"
Nathan had arrived at the coffee shop and, led by a staff member, began reviewing the security feed.
Unfortunately, the spot where her car had been was a blind spot, and there was no clear view of the vehicle.
Nathan's expression darkened. Just as he was about to speak, a security guard exclaimed, "Is this the car?"
Nathan leaned in. "Yes!"
The guard said, "This car paid and left the coffee shop five minutes ago."
Nathan looked at the direction the car was headed, his face full of confusion. "That's the opposite direction from where we were going."
"That road is also a one-way street. It would take at least ten minutes of driving before you could turn around."
Nathan's eyes narrowed. He took a photo of the screen and sent it to the task force's group chat.
"Everyone, listen up. Dr. Hayes was taken from the coffee shop. The vehicle is now heading toward Oakridge Avenue. Notify the Department of Transportation immediately and have them pull traffic camera footage to track the vehicle's location."
The task force had been following up on the lead about the suspect's occupation, but when they heard Nora had been taken, they immediately dropped everything.
