All the clues about the case flashed through Nathan's mind. Suddenly, his gaze fell on the bouquet of lilies. He typed a question into the group chat: "When we were vetting suspects, did we check the flower delivery guys?"
"We did!"
"Was there a Ben?"
"Yes, but Ben has an alibi for the time of Olivia's murder."
"Because you said Olivia's case was likely a guided or simulated crime, the killer would probably be near the crime scene. We checked, and Ben was at the police station that day."
Nathan's brow furrowed. "Why was he at the station?"
"He was delivering flowers to Dr. Hayes from an admirer and happened to run into her boyfriend. He got beat up, and the report was filed right there at our station."
Something clicked in Nathan's head. "Check who ordered those flowers!"
Though they didn't understand why, the team did as Nathan instructed.
A short time later, the results came in.
"No one ordered flowers for Dr. Hayes!"
Nathan's expression was one of grim confirmation.
Thinking back now, Ben had actually left clues in many places.
They had focused more on the general couriers and delivery drivers.
They had forgotten that the flower delivery guys were in a much better position to screen for "simple and gullible" targets for assault.
It's hard to hide your true feelings when you receive flowers.
Flower delivery guy Ben had used this method to select several of his victims.
At the same time, because he was often around the police station, he was aware of the investigation's progress.
To buy himself some time, he had found an imperfect scapegoat: Elias.
And through Elias's girlfriend, he had gradually taught Elias how to kill.
After orchestrating Elias's crime, he had created an alibi for himself, successfully fooling the police for a while.
Nathan and Nora had previously analyzed that A's final act would have to be something big, but no one had ever imagined that the target Ben would choose would be Nora herself!
