"It's fine."
Nathan was typing a message on his phone.
He looked up at Nora. "Don't always take the blame for other people's mistakes."
Nora paused, then let out a dry laugh. "You're right."
She had been too civil, which was why she'd let Aaron get away with so much for so long.
"What are the specifics of the case?"
Nora checked the time. It wasn't even eight o'clock yet. Many people wouldn't even be out of bed. How could an arson case happen at this hour?
"We don't know yet. All we know is that it was malicious arson, and a family of five was burned to death in their home."
Nora gasped.
"Burned alive? Are there any other casualties?"
Nathan said, "That's the strange part. The fire started in this family's home. It was intense, but they were the only ones in the entire building who died."
"There are a few injuries, but not from burns. They were from falls and stampedes as people fled downstairs."
"There's one more bizarre thing."
"What is it?"
"The fire practically burned the family of five to death before it started spreading to the floors above and below. After the firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames, they found the scene was almost completely incinerated."
"The bodies were charred beyond recognition."
Nora frowned. "Mia, I'm working. Please leave."
Unless they were doused in gasoline or some other accelerant, how could people be burned that badly in such a short amount of time?
"Don't overthink it. Let's analyze it when we get to the scene. Eat your breakfast first."
Nathan held the car door open for Nora, then got in right after her.
Nora knew he was right. She stopped talking and quietly finished her breakfast.
Nathan then promptly handed her a bottle of water.
Nora paused for a moment before taking it. "Thanks."
