Under Nathan's firm insistence, Nora took a short nap after she finished eating.
When she woke up, the entire forensics department was quiet, save for the low hum of the air conditioner.
Nora stood up.
Something slipped off her back and fell to the floor.
Nora glanced over and saw a very familiar police jacket lying quietly on the ground.
She bent down to pick it up, but before she could even look for its owner, he appeared in the break room.
“You're awake?”
Nathan was wearing only a white button-down shirt, with his tactical pants clinging to his long, straight legs. You could see the sheer power in them even at a glance.
Nora looked away, her heart hammering against her ribs. She held out the jacket, her voice barely a whisper. “Thanks for the loan.”
The break room was air-conditioned, so she hadn't actually felt cold. But it was a thoughtful gesture, so Nora didn't say anything more.
“It's nothing.” Nathan walked over. Nora's eyes flickered to his long legs for a second before she snatched her gaze away as if she'd been burned.
“Got a paper towel?”
Nathan didn't take the jacket. Instead, he held his hands out in front of her. “I just washed them; they're still wet.”
“Oh, right.” Nora went to grab a paper towel. As she turned, she knocked her knee against the corner of the table, hissing in pain.
“What's wrong?”
Nathan took a step forward, his body nearly pressing against hers.
Startled, Nora spun around, and her forehead brushed past something soft.
They both froze.
