The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 162

“I can handle it, I really can.”

Jacob stared at Tessa with a heavy gaze. “I told you, it’s not necessary.”

“You just focus on getting better!”

Nora, who had been listening from the side, asked curiously, “Little girl, what illness do you have?”

Jacob’s eyes shot toward Nora.

After sizing up Nora’s clothes and appearance, Jacob suddenly stood up. “I’m going to the restroom.”

Without waiting for Tessa’s response, he walked away.

Tessa called out to him a few times, but he didn’t turn back. She could only offer Nora an apologetic smile.

“I’m sorry, miss. Jacob has been under a lot of pressure lately. He’s not usually like this.”

“He’s a very warm person. My sister and I both really like him. He’s like a big brother to us.”

“And his dad is a good person too. If it weren’t for him, my sister and I would have starved to death long ago.”

“It’s a shame good people don’t always get what they deserve. He got sick at his age…”

Nora listened quietly until the girl’s emotions had calmed down a bit before asking, “And what about you? What’s your illness?”

Tessa said, “It’s nothing major, just a problem with my liver.”

“The doctor said it’s a chronic condition, and the sooner I treat it, the better. But with his dad in his current state, I really don’t want to be hospitalized, so I just come here for an injection every day.”

Nora glanced at Tessa’s medical chart.

The prescribed medication was indeed for liver disease, but since Nora was a forensic examiner, she couldn’t understand the specifics.

“I see. You have a sister, right? Is she your biological sister?”

“Yes, my sister’s name is Fiona Dalton. She—”

“Tessa.”

Jacob returned from the restroom.

“You two have met?”

Nora reached out to take the breakfast from Nathan’s hands.

The man lifted his hand, avoiding Nora’s grasp, a hint of intimacy in his tone. “Just sit there and wait to eat. I’ll handle it.”

Nora raised an eyebrow and gave Nathan a strange look, but she didn’t say anything and, just as he said, obediently sat down to the side.

“This is for you. I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I bought a little of everything.”

Nathan handed several bags to Tessa. “Small portions, but a lot of variety. Take your time and don’t worry about waste.”

Tessa took the bags. “Thank you, sir.”

Nathan grunted in acknowledgment, then opened a bag next to him, took out a bowl of oatmeal, and handed it to Nora. “You eat too.”

Nora silently accepted it.

Before she could say anything, Jacob suddenly spoke. “Mr. Peyton, can I talk to you for a moment?”
