After Jacob and Nathan left, Nora ate breakfast with Tessa.
“Miss, that guy is really nice to you.”
Tessa recounted how Nathan had let Nora use his arm as a pillow all night.
Nora couldn’t help but blush. “Did that really happen? Are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?”
“I’m sure I didn’t.”
Tessa giggled. “I also saw him leaning close to you.”
“When he noticed I was watching, he even told me not to tell you.”
Nora felt a mix of amusement and speechlessness.
“Then why are you telling me?”
“Because he likes you, but you’re not responding to him.”
“Miss, are you afraid of something?”
Nora was taken aback.
She hadn’t expected this young girl to be so perceptive.
Nora thought for a moment and said softly, “Actually, I’m getting married soon.”
“I’m marrying someone I don’t know, someone whose name I don’t even know.”
Tessa’s mouth dropped open.
She looked at Nora with a sorrowful expression. “How could that happen? Are you being threatened?”
“Are your parents forcing you to marry some fat, bald guy for money?”
Nora couldn’t help but laugh at Tessa’s description.
“It’s not quite like that.”
“But I really don’t know if he’s tall or short, fat or thin. I only know he’s around my age.”
“His grandfather… has a very dignified appearance and a commanding, righteous presence. So I imagine the guy himself can’t be too ugly.”
“I see… But is there no way for you to refuse, miss?”
