"And I can help you deal with that scumbag father of yours."
"One word from my dad, and your father wouldn't dare to breathe. I'll make him get on his knees and apologize to you!"
Nora couldn't help but laugh at Nolan's words.
"My fiancé can do all of that too."
Wasn't that the whole reason she'd agreed to marry Mr. Peyton in the first place?
"Impossible!"
Nolan said arrogantly. "Besides the Devereaux family, who else could make your father submit so completely?"
Nora gave Nolan a cool glance.
"Mr. Devereaux, no matter how powerful you think you are, there’s always someone higher up the food chain."
"Alright, let's stop talking about this nonsense. First, go get those gifts back. I'll—"
Nora was cut off by a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Nora looked at the door, puzzled, wondering who would come by at a time like this.
Unexpectedly, the door opened, and Nathan walked in with a dark expression on his face.
For some reason, Nora suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
She avoided Nathan's gaze, her hand in her pocket nervously picking at the seam. Her eyes darted left and right, anywhere but at Nathan.
"The items."
Nathan spoke.
An officer immediately entered and placed the gifts Nolan had sent, untouched, in front of him.
"Mr. Devereaux, please take these things back."
"To avoid any trouble."
Nolan frowned. "I sent these as Nora's fiancé to everyone. I didn't mean anything else by it."
"Nora's fiancé?"
Nora felt an undeniable gaze land on her, intense enough to burn a hole right through her.
