Nathan nodded and turned to leave without another word.
Nora watched the man's somewhat cold back, pouting as she muttered under her breath, "Such a moody guy."
The veteran detective didn't quite hear what Nora said and cupped his ear. "What was that?"
Nora waved her hand. "I'm heading to the conference room, too."
"Alright, I'll go to the restroom and be right there."
Nora gave a hum of acknowledgment.
She lingered for a moment before heading to the task force's conference room, assuming everyone would already be there.
To her surprise, Nathan was the only one there, sitting at the head of the table as steady as a rock.
All the other seats were empty.
Nora couldn't help but ask, "Where is everyone?"
The conference room was silent; no one answered her question.
Nora clenched her jaw.
She walked to an empty seat and sat down, looking up at Nathan. "Nathan, where is everyone else?"
Now that she had called him by name, Nathan surely couldn't pretend he hadn't heard, right?
As it turned out, he really could.
The silence in the conference room was so profound that Nora could hear her own breathing growing heavier and heavier.
Nora was speechless.
She let out a small huff and pulled out her phone, intending to ask in the group chat, when a soft tapping sound echoed in the room.
Looking up, she saw Nathan tapping the seat next to him with his index finger.
The meaning was perfectly clear.
Nora felt that Nathan sometimes acted less like a detective and more like a child.
And yet, there was nothing she could do about it.
Resigned, she stood up, walked over, and sat down. "Is this better?" Nora asked wearily.
Nathan finally graced Nora with a proper look.
