Every time she closed her eyes, she either felt like someone was watching her…
…or she’d see a flashback of Nathan’s gentle expression when he said, “She won’t.”
Nora was agitated and tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
After finally managing to fall asleep, her alarm went off what felt like a moment later.
Nora groaned, stayed in bed for five more minutes, and then finally forced herself to crawl out from under the covers.
After washing up and getting dressed, she opened her door to see Nathan leaning against the wall, though she had no idea how long he’d been waiting.
Nora was taken aback when she saw him. She instinctively glanced down at her phone, saw no unread messages, and asked, a little puzzled, “Why didn’t you text me?”
“How long have you been waiting here?”
Nathan said, “Not long.”
He handed her the breakfast he was holding and started walking ahead.
“When I woke up, I got a call from one of the officers. They caught the taxi driver.”
“Once Aaron comes in to identify him and confirms he was the driver from that night, this case will most likely be closed.”
Nora was completely caught off guard by this sudden good news.
There was still a hint of disbelief in her eyes. “Really? We couldn’t find him for so long. How did they suddenly catch him?”
Nathan said, “Probably because of Jacob.”
Nora paused for a moment, then quickly understood.
“Jacob is his family’s hope, their most promising college student with a bright future ahead of him.”
“I imagine they wouldn’t want to see Jacob go to prison and have the rest of his life ruined.”
Nathan grunted in agreement.
“We’ll know the whole truth after the interrogation.”
“Right.”
Nora opened her breakfast and took a bite, walking into the elevator beside Nathan.
When they arrived at the station, Nathan went to the forensics lab first.
