The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 196

“Is it so hard to admit that some people are just meant to be?”

Aaron looked as if he’d been slapped, his face flushing with anger.

Mia glared at Nora, wanting to mock her but afraid Nora would expose their connection.

Frustrated, she could only stand by Aaron's side, tugging his hand. “Aaron, maybe we should just go?”

Aaron didn't want to stay and be humiliated either. He was about to agree when he heard Nora call his name.

Aaron's eyes lit up, and he quickly turned to Nora. “Nora, I knew you—”

Nora spoke in a businesslike tone. “Mr. Wells, we asked you here today to cooperate with our investigation. What do you mean by leaving now?”

Someone snickered.

The light in Aaron's eyes died completely.

“Mr. Wells, please come with us.”

An officer quickly walked over.

Dejected, Aaron followed him inside.

Mia tried to follow but was stopped.

“Sorry, Ms. Hayes. We need to take Mr. Wells's statement alone.”

“If you're not involved in the case, please wait outside.”

Mia stomped her foot. As the heiress of the Hayes Group, she had never been so humiliated.

“You're ruthless, Nora!”

With that, she yelled to Aaron's retreating back, “I'll be waiting in the car!” and stormed off.

The farce was finally over.

Nora and Nathan immediately rushed in.

Inside the interrogation room, a table and chairs had been knocked over by the taxi driver. His target appeared to be Aaron, who was identifying him from outside.

Aaron was also terrified by the beast-like man inside.

When he saw Nora enter, he looked at her with a wronged expression and whimpered, “Nora.”

But Nora didn't even glance at him. She went straight to her colleague and asked, “What happened?”

“Aaron confirmed it. The man inside is the taxi driver from that day—Jacob's brother, Kyle.”

“He probably guessed why we brought him in today. After Aaron confirmed his identity, I notified the officers inside via microphone. They touched their earpieces, and Kyle must have caught the movement. He got enraged and tried to charge out and attack the witness.”

Nora's face hardened. Looking at the man who was now subdued inside, she let out a slow breath.

“Looks like we can close this case.”
