Tessa spoke with Jacob for about ten minutes.
The officer informed her that her time was up.
Tessa was sobbing, unable to catch her breath, as she followed the officer out of the interrogation room.
“Miss, Jacob… he…” Tessa was so choked with sobs she couldn't speak.
Nora walked over and patted her on the shoulder.
“Don't worry, we won't arrest an innocent person.”
Jacob was, in fact, not involved in the case; he had been a victim from the start.
If he continued to claim he was the killer, the department would consider charging him with obstruction of justice.
“Thank you, miss.”
Nora exchanged a look with Nathan. Seeing him nod, she turned to Tessa and asked, “Are you going back to the hospital, or…?”
Considering it was hard to get a cab from the station, Nora offered to give her a ride.
Tessa said she needed to go back to the hospital.
“Then I'll drive you back.”
After leading Tessa out of the station and into her car, Nora saw that she was still dejected and said, “Don't worry. Your brother Jacob will be out soon.”
Tessa's hands, resting on her knees, trembled. “Really? He's so stubborn… I don't understand why he's trying so hard to protect Kyle!”
Nora raised an eyebrow. “Why do you seem so hostile toward Kyle?”
Tessa froze.
“I… I'm not…”
Nora's lips curved into a slight smile. “Then maybe I was mistaken. I just felt your attitude toward him was different from your attitude toward Jacob.”
Tessa said, “Well, we don't know him that well. They used to be so elusive, hardly ever home. Of course my sister and I weren't as close to them as we were to Jacob.”
Nora nodded. They chatted a bit more, and when she heard Nora say the money was at their old home, Tessa paused. “When did Jacob go to our old home?”
