Nora wanted to glare at him, but then she remembered he was her brand-new boss and managed to hold back.

“How did you know?”

Nora didn’t think Nathan had known Aaron before.

All told, the two had only met twice.

For him to figure out that Aaron was cheating… what was this? The top-tier observation skills of a detective?

“His contact was saved as Honey Mia.”

“A normal man wouldn’t casually save a woman’s name like that.”

“Or is your nickname Mia?”

Nora was speechless.

He had a point. She couldn’t even argue.

She thought she was about to witness the brilliant deductive skills of the state’s top detective.

Turns out, the most brilliant deductions often require the simplest method of observation—just looking.

Aaron thought he had been so clever about hiding it, but in reality, the only two other conscious people in the room had both seen who the caller was.

“I’m going to break up with him.”

Although Nora didn’t feel the need to explain her personal life to her boss, she added the comment to prevent Nathan from thinking she was so blinded by love that she couldn’t even break up with a cheating boyfriend, which might cause him to doubt her professional competence.

Nathan nodded, his voice indifferent. “Congratulations.”

Nora fell silent.

“Thanks.”

A soft chuckle seemed to echo in the air.

Nora’s head snapped up.

She caught the tail end of a smile vanishing from Nathan’s lips.

Nora frowned. What was wrong with him? Was it really that funny that she was being cheated on?

But Nora chose forensics anyway.

Along the way, the most common thing Nora heard was, “She could be saving the living, but she insists on cutting up the dead. What’s the use of that? Would the world stop turning if there was one less medical examiner?”

Nora had briefly felt lost and uncertain.

She didn’t know if she had made the right choice.

It was her mother who had always encouraged and supported her, telling her to do whatever she wanted.

She had said, “It’s not like the hospitals are short on doctors, but there’s definitely a shortage of medical examiners. Not everyone is willing to do that job. My daughter’s bravery is a virtue, not a flaw. They’re just too prejudiced against girls.”

“Nora, if you want to be a medical examiner, then go be one. Your mother will always support you.”

Nora rested her forehead on the back of her mother’s hand.

Feeling the faint, weak heartbeat, she could no longer hold back her tears as they streamed down her face.

After leaving the Hayes family, Nora never went out of her way to keep up with them.

She had no idea Mia had gotten tangled up with Aaron.
