The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 26

The thought that her mother’s fate was partly due to her own poor judgment filled Nora with a deep sense of regret.

If only she had recognized Aaron’s vicious nature sooner, her mother might have been transferred to a better hospital and received proper treatment long ago.

She had failed her mother… She was such a terrible daughter…

“Ms. Hayes.”

A knock on the hospital room door pulled Nora from her grief and anger. She quickly wiped the tears from her face, cleared her throat, and called out, “Come in.”

The nurse pushed the door open and walked in.

“Ms. Hayes, you forgot to pick up your mother’s payment receipt.”

“Payment receipt?”

Nora was taken aback. “But I haven’t made any payments.”

“Someone already paid.”

“But he left in such a hurry. I didn’t even have a chance to call out to him before he was gone.”

Nora stood up, surprised. “Who paid for me?”

“A very handsome and wealthy man.”

Why that description again?

Nora took the receipt, her expression strange. “I can understand handsome, but how could you tell he was wealthy?”

The nurse pointed to the receipt. “You’ll know when you see it.”

“I have to go, but if you need anything, just press the call button.”

Nora thanked her, thoroughly puzzled by what she’d just heard.

“You’ll know when you see it?”

Nora repeated the nurse’s words, then glanced down and was stunned by the number of zeros on the paper.
