The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 258

Nora felt his gaze and turned her head slightly, meeting his martyr-like stare.

She didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Having a literal comedian dropped into the middle of a high-stakes hostage crisis was just absurd.

"Captain, we've got Mr. Devereaux. He's ready to patch in and speak to the target."

"Put him through." Nathan glanced at the operative assigned to infiltrate the rear. Seeing the man still fumbling with his tactical gear, Nathan stepped up without hesitation. "I'll do it."

"Captain, no!"

Flanking from the rear was suicide. Not only was the perimeter lined with C4, but if the kidnapper spotted the infiltrator, he would open fire immediately. At that close range, anyone inside would be turned into Swiss cheese!

"It's fine."

Nathan was a frontline veteran who had executed countless rescue ops. He snatched the gear, strapped it on, and vanished into the darkness like a prowling panther.

The team was anxious but didn't dare compromise his cover. They could only watch him disappear into the shadows.

"Keep him talking," the lieutenant ordered.

"Patch Mr. Devereaux through to confirm the ransom."

"Tell him to keep the guy calm and stall for as much time as humanly possible."

The bomb squad was in position. Until the area was secured, the kidnapper couldn't suspect a thing.

"Copy that."

The team relayed the instructions, and soon Mr. Devereaux's video call connected.

The kidnapper shoved Nolan forward. "Is that your dad?"

Nolan squinted at the screen. Seeing his father's face, the tears instantly started flowing. "Dad! Save me, Dad!"

Hearing his heart-wrenching wails, Nora sighed internally. He really was a spoiled daddy's boy.
