“Ms. Hayes?!”
Aaron quickly corrected himself. “What are you doing here? What happened?”
Mia clutched her face, crying pitifully. “I came to the hospital to find you and got the wrong room. This lady seems to have misunderstood our relationship and slapped me twice.”
Aaron instantly reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
He looked at Nora, disbelieving and filled with guilt. “You doubt me?”
“Nora, why would you suddenly suspect me?”
“Ms. Hayes is just one of my patients. After all these years together, is this really how you see me?”
Nora raised an eyebrow.
Mia’s little act was as disgusting as it was pathetic.
“What’s going on, Dr. Wells?”
The commotion in the room had drawn the attention of others.
Seeing the slap marks on Mia’s face, everyone’s gaze turned to Nora.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t know Dr. Wells’s girlfriend was so… I won’t come to Dr. Wells for treatment anymore. I’m really sorry…”
Mia said, making a show of rushing out.
Of course, Aaron wouldn’t let her leave like that. He grabbed her arm, turned around, and said to Nora in a self-righteous tone, “Nora, apologize to Ms. Hayes right now!”
For a moment, she was transported back to the year she was thrown out of the Hayes family estate.
Her own biological father had been ruthless, wishing them dead. The only reason her mother had secured a divorce was because she had given up everything and left with nothing.
But her choice had become the very reason people used to attack her.
“How could she be a good person if she left with nothing? She probably got caught cheating in bed! What a slut. She had a great husband like Mr. Hayes and still fooled around. Her daughter probably isn’t even his. Mr. Hayes was too kind for not getting revenge on them.”
At the thought, Nora clenched her fists. Just as she had stood protectively in front of her mother all those years ago, she showed no sign of backing down.
Aaron knew Nora. Seeing her like this, he knew she wouldn’t give in easily.
In his panic, he grabbed her arm and warned in a low voice, “Nora, this is the heiress of the Hayes Group, someone you can’t afford to cross! Listen to me, just apologize to her. I’ll smooth things over, and we can put this behind us. You’re always so reasonable. Don’t make things difficult for me, okay?”
