Forensics Division.
Nora stepped out of the examination room looking utterly exhausted, Julia's voice immediately greeting her.
"Nora, your phone has been ringing off the hook. I saw it was an unknown number, so I didn't bother interrupting you."
Julia hurried over, helping Nora remove her soiled scrubs and pack away her tool kit.
Nora glanced at the screen. Seeing it was indeed an unknown caller, she shrugged it off.
"Let's write up the autopsy report first."
Noticing Nora's troubled expression, Julia couldn't help but ask, "How did the autopsy go?"
"Is Evelyn's cause of death complicated?"
Nora couldn't stop picturing the body on the table, her eyes filled with sorrow.
Seeing this, Julia's heart sank.
She had started assisting Nora before even graduating from college.
There were very few people who studied forensics to begin with.
Women in the field were practically unicorns.
Julia had stumbled into the profession by chance; it hadn't been her original dream.
But after spending her entire internship with Nora, everything changed.
She had become fiercely determined to become a top-tier medical examiner herself.
In all these years, this was the first time she had seen Nora look so conflicted.
Was the body that difficult to analyze?
Julia couldn't understand. They had examined some incredibly bizarre cases. She had briefly inspected Evelyn's body herself, and it hadn't seemed particularly strange. Why was Nora reacting this way?
"It's not complicated,"
Nora sighed. "The cause of death was massive hemorrhaging caused by blunt force trauma to the back of the head."
"But during the detailed autopsy, I found numerous old injuries."
Julia froze.
"What kind of injuries?"
"Most likely caused by severe physical abuse," Nora explained.
