Regardless, her relationship with the Devereaux family was clearly far beyond what Leonard imagined.
She hadn't intended to reveal this connection, but Leonard was pushing her too far. There was no need to spare these people's pride anymore.
"Nora?"
"What a pleasant surprise. Did you run into some trouble?"
Mr. Devereaux answered almost immediately.
Hearing his familiar, almost doting tone, Leonard and the others stood frozen in shock.
Mia nearly screamed out loud.
How was this possible?
It was one thing for Nora to have a good relationship with Nolan—after all, they had survived a life-or-death situation together.
But why would the head of the family be so kind to her?
"Shut up!"
Leonard quickly yanked Mia back.
That was Mr. Devereaux on the line! If she blurted out something stupid, his entire plan would go up in smoke!
He stared at Nora in sheer terror, his eyes swimming with conflicting emotions.
A tidal wave of regret washed over him.
If he had known she had such a solid connection with Mr. Devereaux, he wouldn't have set her up with Aaron! He would have arranged a marriage for her directly!
Realizing his colossal blunder too late, Leonard was consumed by frustration.
But he didn't even have time to dwell on it.
Because Nora had just dropped a bomb.
"Mr. Devereaux, can the partnership between your group and the Hayes Group be terminated?"
Leonard's heart nearly leaped out of his throat.
But the Nora standing before them now was like a cool, collected business magnate.
Her calm tone and superior posture made her seem like a seasoned corporate titan.
With just a few casual words, she could reduce a multimillion-dollar partnership to ashes.
"No... Nora... Dad knows he was wrong. Please, spare the company! You can't terminate the partnership!"
To get the Hayes Group onto the Devereaux Group's massive ship, Leonard had thrown away every other project to focus solely on this one.
He had thought this deal would catapult his company to the top, but now it was a deadly poison.
He was drowning in regret.
If he had known, he would never have used her to bridge the gap. Now, his scheming had backfired spectacularly, leaving him completely cornered.
Nora shot him a glacial look. "Have someone bring my mother here right now!"
"And the three of you are going to give Nathan a proper apology, or else you will regret it!"
