All eyes in the room instantly locked onto the projection screen.
Nathan's gaze lingered on Nora for a fleeting second before shifting away. He cast a video onto the screen, and Nora immediately recognized the woman in the frame. It was Laura Morgan, the victim of the high-profile kidnapping case.
"Are you saying... you want to turn yourself in?" an officer's voice echoed from the recording.
The camera was angled directly at Laura, capturing every subtle shift in her expression. At the question, a flicker of inner turmoil crossed her features. Then, as if she had finally made peace with her demons, her face settled into a calm resolve.
She gave a slow nod. "Yes."
An uproar swept through the conference room.
"Turn herself in? Isn't she the victim? What is there to confess?"
"Hush, just keep watching!"
Nora's back stiffened at that single word—*hush*. A sudden, icy chill snaked up her spine, radiating out to her limbs. Chills broke out across her arms. Fighting down the suffocating wave of unease, she lifted her gaze and met Nathan's warm, grounding eyes.
He stood there, tall and imposing, an anchor of safety in the chaotic room.
Nora drew in a deep breath, recalling Nathan's warning not to let preconceived notions cloud this case. She silently repeated his words like a mantra until the terrifying sensation finally bled out of her system.
The video continued to play.
