Valerie was caught between tears and laughter at Nora's rapid-fire questions.

"Whoa, slow down. You don't actually think my idol is wrapped up in something illegal, do you? Relax. He's been an A-lister for over a decade. He wouldn't throw it all away by crossing the line."

"Celebrities these days are fiercely protective of their reputations," Valerie added. "Trust me, he's clean."

Nora supposed she was right.

If this celebrity really had skeletons in his closet, he wouldn't have survived at the top of the entertainment industry for over ten years without a scandal.

Success always bred jealousy.

With his level of fame, plenty of people were probably desperate to dig up dirt and tear him down.

Since he hadn't fallen yet, he was either a genuinely decent, law-abiding guy, or he was smart enough to guard his boundaries.

"Can I tag along to that fan event?" Nora asked.

Since Valerie had flown all this way, Nora wanted to keep her company.

She wasn't particularly interested in celebrity culture, but she wasn't about to let her best friend wander around Luminport City alone.

"You should be able to. The announcement said we could bring a plus-one," Valerie replied.

"My idol is great like that. He probably worries about his fans traveling alone."

"The exact time hasn't been set yet, but it should be in the next few days. I'll let you know."

Nora nodded.

A knock on the bedroom door interrupted them.

Nora stood up and pulled it open.

Nathan stood in the doorway, wearing Nora's apron.

The fabric cinched at his narrow waist, putting his broad, athletic shoulders on full display.

Valerie bit her lip hard to keep her internal screaming locked away.

What could he do? She was his woman. He just had to spoil her.

"I've got all the ingredients prepped," Nathan said. "I just need to finalize the sauce. I wanted to ask what kind of flavors your friend likes."

Before Nora could answer, the bedroom door cracked open, and Valerie poked her head out. "I can't handle anything too spicy! If you guys are making a spread, maybe we could do two different sauces?"

Nathan thought for a second. "Nora isn't great with heat either. How about a rich tomato basil base?"

Valerie nodded enthusiastically. "That sounds perfect. Thanks, Nathan."

Nathan offered her a polite smile. "Don't mention it. Any friend of Nora's is a friend of mine."

"Tonight is a bit casual, but tomorrow, Nora and I will take you to the best restaurant in Luminport City to properly welcome you."

Valerie's eyes widened. She could hardly believe this impeccably polite man was the same aloof cop who had coldly rejected her interview requests.

"Sounds great..."

Muttering her agreement, Valerie reached out and pulled Nora back into the bedroom.
