The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 37

Since they had settled on a private agreement, the police were no longer needed.

Nora personally saw them out. When she returned to the room, Mia was gone, leaving only Aaron waiting for her.

Nora frowned. “Where’s Mia?”

“She went to get the money.”

Aaron looked at Nora with a complicated expression.

He wanted to scold her for making such an outrageous demand, which had not only cost Mia her dignity but also a fortune.

But remembering Nora’s sharp intuition, he didn’t dare show his displeasure too obviously.

In the end, he just asked, “Nora, did you really see her try to pull out your mother’s oxygen tube?”

Nora laughed, the sound tinged with fury.

“What, are you suggesting I’m extorting her?”

She looked Aaron up and down, her voice laced with suspicion. “You’re not trying to suck up to Ms. Hayes by, say, secretly recording this conversation, are you? Waiting for me to slip up so you can help her countersue me for blackmail?”

Aaron was startled and stammered, “H-How could you think that of me?”

“Nora, we’ve known each other for so many years. Don’t you trust me? I’m your boyfriend. Why would I help someone else hurt you?”

If she hadn’t discovered Aaron’s betrayal, Nora would have apologized right then.

But she knew him too well. His reaction confirmed her suspicions.

Her gaze swept over Aaron’s shirt pocket before she let out a soft laugh. “I wanted to ask you the same thing.”
