The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 38

Nora listened quietly as Aaron went on and on with his complaints.

In the past seven years, Nora never knew Aaron had harbored so much resentment.

But what gave him the right to blame it all on her?

“I’m a little confused.”

Nora’s tone was neutral. “Have I lost my memory, or are you delusional? We’re just boyfriend and girlfriend right now. You’ve never proposed, we’re not engaged, and we’re not married. Your complaining about wanting a hot meal and a cozy family life seems a bit premature, don’t you think?”

“Or does this mean you already have another family somewhere?”

Aaron’s eyes darted away.

“Nora, that’s not what I meant. I just… I just want you to pay more attention to me.”

“Why should I?”

The three cold words left Aaron stunned. “What?”

Nora met Aaron’s gaze without flinching. “I asked, why should I?”

“There’s no rule that says a woman has to stay home and cook for a man. You’re a doctor saving lives, and I respect your work and your ambition. My being a medical examiner is my work and my ambition. If you want someone to cook for you and a wife and kids waiting at home, then you shouldn't be with me. Is this the first day we’ve known each other? Is this the first you’re hearing that I was going to be a medical examiner?”

“Or have you always thought that once we get married, I should quit my job and stay home to take care of you?”

Nora rubbed her temples, her voice cold and merciless. “In that case, I don’t think there’s any reason for us to continue. I would never quit my job for a marriage.”

“Forensic medicine is the profession I love. I will never give it up.”

“Nora, what are you saying!”

“Our seven-year relationship, you’re just going to throw it all away?”

Even with her busy job, she always made time to check in on him and even helped clean his apartment.

But Nora was a prude.

She insisted on waiting until after marriage to have sex and had been completely unmoved by his countless advances.

Aaron even suspected that being a medical examiner and seeing so many dead bodies had either given her a strange fetish or made her frigid.

He, on the other hand, was a normal man with normal physical needs.

Especially with all the stress at the hospital, he relied on that little bit of fun to let off steam.

“Alright, Nora, let’s not fight, okay?” Aaron was unhappy with Nora, but breaking up with her was out of the question.

He looked at her with his puppy-dog eyes. “I’m sorry, okay? Don’t be mad at your hubby. My heart is breaking.”
