"What are we doing up here?"
Nora glanced around. The staff were bustling about downstairs, leaving the second floor completely empty.
"I'm showing you my room," Nathan said.
Nora nodded in understanding. "Okay."
They walked into his bedroom.
He clearly favored a specific style. Nora let out a soft laugh at the monochromatic decor. "Have you always preferred this color palette?"
"Yeah."
Nathan paused. "If you don't like it for our bedroom, we can change it."
"We can remodel this whole place."
He pulled out his phone, completely serious. "What colors do you like? I'll get some designers to come over and draft some custom plans."
Half-laughing, Nora grabbed his hand to stop him.
"There's no need. That's too much trouble."
Nora wasn't a dictator who couldn't adapt to her surroundings.
His style was a bit gloomy, sure, but not enough to warrant tearing the room down to the studs.
Since they were getting married, they needed to learn how to compromise and adjust to each other.
Forcing one person to constantly cater to the other was a recipe for disaster.
"Your Grandpa..." Nora nervously picked at the seam of her pocket. "I don't even know how to repay him."
When she was betrayed and lost, Harold was the one who offered her a lifeline.
Now, he was treating her with such genuine warmth. It left her feeling incredibly guilty.
Until recently, she had only viewed him as the grandfather of her business partner.
"You don't need to repay him."
Nathan wrapped his arms around her. "Grandpa treats you this well because he admires you. He likes you."
Grandpa and grandson truly were cut from the same cloth. Nora laughed, repeating her earlier reassurances. Just as she was about to sit down, her phone buzzed.
She paused, a sudden sense of dread washing over her.
Nathan looked at her. "Work?"
She shook her head. "Not sure."
But her private number was rarely given out. Almost every call was related to work.
"Answer it!" Harold said immediately. "It's fine, Nora. If work calls, you go handle it."
Valerie silently glanced at Nathan.
If Nora had to leave for work, Nathan would probably have to go too.
As if answering her thoughts, Nathan's phone started ringing before the idea fully formed.
Both of their expressions hardened instantly.
A synchronized phone call meant one thing: the Special Task Force had a new case.
