Harold chuckled warmly. "Good, good. Hurry along now."
Nora glanced at Valerie, who offered a supportive, encouraging look. Returning a soft smile, Nora turned and left with Nathan.
"What did they tell you exactly?"
A standard fender bender definitely wouldn't require Mr. Adams's attention.
"It involves Michael Devereaux."
"Apparently, the tourism board fought tooth and nail to invite him to Luminport City, hoping his massive fanbase would boost the local economy."
"They were supposed to officially announce his arrival in a few days. But tonight, his car got swarmed by obsessive stalkers. Right after they finally broke free, they got rear-ended. They suspect it was a coordinated attack and are demanding maximum punishment for the driver."
Nora froze at the mention of Michael's name. It was quite a coincidence.
But remembering the fan meet Valerie had mentioned, it suddenly made perfect sense.
Michael was likely working in Luminport City, which was why he decided to host the meet-and-greet here.
Still, the situation felt incredibly off.
"A minor accident with zero injuries, and they're escalating it to this level?"
Nathan stayed quiet.
"I know my old assistant," Nora continued. "She's a bit scatterbrained, but she'd never intentionally ram into someone."
"We'll see when we get there."
Nora swallowed her frustration, nodded, and didn't say another word.
Half an hour later, they pulled into the precinct parking lot.
No one batted an eye when Nathan and Nora walked in together.
They had been inseparable even before they were officially engaged.
The officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but their efforts were completely futile.
The furious woman just grew louder.
"How am I supposed to calm down?! Michael came to Luminport City to handle major business! Is this how you protect law-abiding citizens?!"
Nora frowned. After years of working at the station, she had seen plenty of arrogant people throw their weight around.
But she had never seen entitlement dialed up to this extreme.
Taking a deep breath, Nora stepped up and knocked on the door.
The room fell silent for a split second before the shrill voice echoed with triumphant relief. "Is that Mr. Adams? Come in, please! Michael is the victim here, you have to demand justice for him—"
The footsteps approached rapidly. As the door swung open, the woman saw a complete stranger standing there, and the rest of her words died in her throat.
Her eyes bugged out, and she practically shrieked, "Who the hell are you?"
