The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 383

Nora had been standing quite a distance away. Plus, contracts were confidential, so it wasn't her place to snoop.

She honestly had no idea what the penalty was.

"Fifty million dollars."

Sophie made a wildly exaggerated face. "A whopping fifty million!"

"Even if they let me pay that off in installments for the rest of my life, I'd never be able to afford it!"

"What exactly is Michael doing in Luminport City anyway? Why is his itinerary such a heavily guarded secret?"

Nora immediately recalled what Nathan had mentioned about the Tourism Ambassador gig.

But on second thought, keeping a tourism gig under lock and key to this extreme felt bizarre.

And that contract...

Who just carries a multi-million-dollar NDA in their purse ready to go?

*Honk.*

The sound of the car horn snapped Nora out of her thoughts. Sophie grabbed her hand. "The car's here. Let's go!"

Nora nodded. They slid into the backseat, and Nathan charted a course straight for the hospital.

At first, Sophie chattered non-stop, but the closer they got to the hospital, the quieter she became.

When they arrived, Nora was a bit concerned and offered to walk her in, but Sophie gently refused.

"I can go in by myself. You guys head home and get some rest."

Sophie had noticed Nora's elegant outfit right away.

She knew that for someone who rarely dressed up, Nora must have had important plans. She felt incredibly touched but also guilty for ruining Nora's evening.

She made a mental note to repay the favor someday.

"Oh, right. Here."

Sophie pulled out her work camera and handed it to Nora.

"This belongs to the precinct. I shoved it in my pocket when I left in a rush. I'm taking a few days off, so could you drop it back at the station for me?"

"Of course."

Nora took the camera. As she turned around, a pair of headlights from a passing car blinded her, and she raised her hand to shield her eyes.

He didn't understand why Nora was so fixated on it.

"Not exactly."

Nora frowned. "I just feel like something's off."

Nathan kept his eyes on the road, his deep voice filling the quiet cabin.

"Because of Quinn?"

"Yes!"

Nora's eyes lit up, thrilled to realize they were on the exact same wavelength.

"You felt it too?"

Nathan neither confirmed nor denied it.

Nora didn't mind and kept piecing it together aloud. "Quinn was so arrogant and aggressive at first, acting like she wanted to throw Sophie behind bars immediately."

"Then she just casually let it go. Isn't that weird? And that NDA... Michael is just here for some events, not shooting a top-secret blockbuster. His arrival in the city is already trending all over social media. Why ignore the internet leaks but aggressively corner a random girl over a fender-bender?"
