The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 384

"It is strange," Nathan agreed.

"Especially since Chief Adams personally called to ask me to receive them tonight."

Nora's eyes widened in surprise. "Receive them?"

That was a highly formal word to use for Michael's team.

It sounded far too official.

"It probably has something to do with higher-up decisions. Either way, it's out of our Special Task Force's jurisdiction."

"Tonight was just an accident."

Nora still couldn't shake the nagging feeling that she was overlooking a crucial detail.

But running through the timeline of the rear-end collision, she couldn't pinpoint a single piece of direct evidence to justify her suspicion.

Quinn's erratic behavior could technically be chalked up to panic.

Valerie had mentioned that Quinn gave up her other clients to manage Michael exclusively. He was her only cash cow.

So her initial hysteria made sense.

And once the misunderstanding was cleared up, it was natural for her to quiet down.

"You're right."

Nora checked the time. "Good thing it's not too late. I wouldn't have known how to face your Grandpa otherwise."

Nathan let out a low laugh. "If we get back early, we eat dinner. If we get back late, we eat a midnight snack."

Harold cheerfully ushered everyone to eat.

After running around all night, Nora was genuinely starving. Plus, the Peyton family chef was phenomenal, so she ended up eating two more bowls than usual.

Harold beamed from ear to ear, repeatedly telling her to "Come back and eat anytime you want, my dear."

Deciding that wasn't enough, he quickly added, "Actually, I'll just have the chef go to your new house every day to cook for you two. Save you kids the trouble of cooking."

Nora had seen people take home leftovers, but taking home the personal chef was a new one. She was just about to politely decline when Nathan, who had been quietly eating, looked up with total seriousness. "No, Grandpa."

"You rascal, why do you always have to oppose me? I'm just trying to make things easier for you two! Don't think I don't know you young people order takeout three times a day because you hate cooking. Aside from whether it's healthy, don't you get sick of it?"

"Sending you a chef is the perfect solution! You'll come home to hot meals. If you don't want it, fine, starve. I'll have the chef cook for Nora exclusively."

Nathan set down his chopsticks, his expression completely earnest. "I do the cooking in our house. Nora prefers my food over any chef's."
