The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 39

Nora didn’t know if Aaron’s heart was really breaking.

But she felt like she was going to be sick.

If her mother wasn’t still waiting for a hospital transfer, she would have loved to slap that hypocritical mask right off his face.

He wasn’t backing down because he loved her.

It was simply that after seven years, the sunk cost was too high, and on top of that, she treated him too well. That’s why Aaron didn’t want to let go.

This shameless, disgusting jerk. Did he think he was some ancient lord who could have his cake and eat it too? He might as well go die and see if he could be reincarnated to live out his dream!

“You should get back to work. I’m going to stay with my mom for a while.”

The anesthesia should be wearing off soon, and Nora didn’t want her mother to know what had happened.

Seeing that Nora had finally softened, a flash of triumph crossed Aaron’s eyes.

He just knew it. Nora loved him so much she couldn’t live without him.

Wasn’t she won over with just a few words?

“Nora,” Aaron was the type to take a mile when given an inch. He walked over to her and forcefully took her hand. “Let me stay with you, okay? I haven’t really talked to your mom in a long time either. I’m sure she’ll be happier to see us together when she wakes up.”

Nora looked at him coldly. “Is that so? So my mom has been in your hospital for this long, and you haven’t come to see her once?”

Realizing his slip-up, Aaron quickly tried to cover his tracks. “No, that’s not what I meant. It’s just that I’ve been so busy. Every time I came to her room, I was in a rush, so we never really got to talk.”

Nora remained silent.

Aaron once again felt the pressure of having his lies seen through.

His expression changed, and he said with a flustered look, “I just remembered I have a few patients to check on. I’ll go for now. Call me when you’re leaving, Nora. If I’m free, I’ll drive you home.”

“Let’s just let today’s incident go. Promise me, okay, Nora?”
