The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 464

She gave him a bewildered look.

They already knew someone had broken in; what else was there to check?

Just as she was about to ask, her eyes landed on the scattered lingerie. Heat instantly rushed to her cheeks.

"R-right!"

She quickly stepped forward, using her body to block his view.

He didn't linger, striding right out of the bedroom.

She hurriedly scooped up her underwear and shoved them back into place.

At that moment, she was incredibly thankful that Valerie had been in such a rush earlier. Because they hadn't packed properly, Nora had simply brought everything straight to the Peyton estate later.

Otherwise, she would have felt terrible if Valerie had gotten dragged into this mess.

After doing a quick tidy-up of her more private items, the local officers arrived just as she stepped out of the room.

Since they were all familiar faces, she gave them a brief rundown of the situation, and they immediately called in the forensics team to process the scene.

She and Nathan stepped out of the way.

"Want some water?"

He led her straight into his own apartment.

Everything in his place was perfectly untouched.

Seeing that only fueled her anger further.

The thought of her home being violated by such lawless thugs made her blood boil.

"Yes."

"Do you have anything ice-cold?"

She desperately needed something freezing to extinguish the fire in her chest.

It was the first time he had seen her this livid. His lips curved upward as he quickly grabbed a bottle of ice water from the fridge and handed it to her.

After the police wrapped up, the two of them waited for the cleaners to arrive before finally leaving the apartment.

She didn't really keep anything of extreme value there anyway. Her ID and important documents were always on her, and her savings were kept safe with her mother, so she didn't have to worry about financial theft.

On the drive to The Grand Harvest Buffet, she called Valerie to explain what had happened.

Valerie was just as outraged.

"Those guys are completely out of their minds!"

Nora silently agreed.

Thank god they had been staying at the Peyton estate. If those thugs had broken in while they were home—or worse, if Valerie had been there alone—she couldn't bear to imagine the consequences.

"Well, I'm glad it's sorted out. Don't stress too much about it, Nora," Valerie said. Even though she was rattled, she was bold enough to turn around and comfort her friend.

"Staying at the estate is perfect anyway. The wedding is right around the corner! You can just get ready there and head straight to the new house."

"But I'm warning you right now—I am absolutely doing the Wedding Night Pranks. Tell your Officer Peyton he'd better be ready!"
