The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 48

"But his family clearly doesn't think so. They keep insisting we're in cahoots with the real killer, trying to cover up the fact that Elias was murdered."

"They also say the police are incompetent and can't solve the case, so we're just pinning it on some poor soul to close the books."

"They keep threatening to post everything online and let the public be the judge."

Nora shook her head, a hint of helplessness in her expression.

"The current climate has really affected a lot of people."

Some people don't trust the justice system or public servants, blindly believing whatever they hear. It was as if a steady diet of social media had warped their sense of reality.

"Any other leads?"

"Yes."

Nathan’s gaze rested on Nora.

She met his eyes, puzzled.

The two stood in silence, neither speaking first.

Nora frowned. "What is it?"

Nathan asked, "Do you have any theories?"

Was he testing her?

Though she didn't know what Nathan was up to, Nora had no intention of holding back.

After all, they were on the same task force. Solving the case quickly was more important than anything.

"A small one."

"Let's hear it."

Nora took a deep breath and spoke softly. "I think we should start with Elias's girlfriend."

"When Elias suddenly stopped while they were about to have sex, she must have sensed something was off."

"Even though it's an embarrassing topic, if it were me, I would definitely—"

"We can try that angle."

Nathan suddenly cut her off.

Nora looked at him, bewildered.
