The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 49

"Nathan, she just keeps repeating that. She won't answer any questions properly."

The officer looked at Nathan with difficulty. "We can't hold them here forever."

Nathan stared at Mrs. Morel through the glass and whispered a few instructions.

The officer's eyes lit up. He immediately picked up the walkie-talkie and relayed the message to his colleague conducting the interrogation inside.

Nora raised an eyebrow, wondering what Nathan had told them.

To her surprise, Mrs. Morel suddenly shot up from her chair, agitated. "That's slander! I can sue you for this!"

"I won't let you talk about my son like that!"

"That's just a vicious rumor someone made up because they were jealous of him! My son would never do those things!"

The interrogating officer remained calm in the face of Mrs. Morel's outburst. "But we already have evidence."

"You broke into a police station and vandalized property today. If you can't explain why and refuse to take responsibility, you will be facing criminal detention."

"No…"

Mrs. Morel's lips trembled. "You can't do this to us… You're the ones slandering my son…"

The officer didn't respond.

Mrs. Morel clutched her head, the rose gold bracelet on her wrist jingling softly.

It was unclear what thought crossed her mind, but she suddenly fell quiet.

Everyone waited patiently. After about ten minutes, Mrs. Morel spoke softly, "If I agree to apologize and pay for the damages, can I go home?"

At her words, a collective sigh of relief went through the room.

What Mrs. Morel and the others had done could be treated as a major or minor offense. The damage to the forensics lab wasn't severe, and Julia's injuries weren't serious. If they had insisted on not taking responsibility, it would have been difficult for the police to press the matter too hard.

Nathan pulled his gaze away and started walking out.

Nora hesitated for a moment before following him.
