The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 63

In the midst of the boisterous crowd, those two voices weren't particularly loud.

But someone fell silent, and then one by one, everyone else did too.

The crowd's gaze darted back and forth between Colin and Nathan.

Someone with less tact just blurted out the question, "Colin, Captain, how did you both know Dr. Hayes can't drink?"

The moment the words left his mouth, he was met with scornful glares from those around him.

Realizing his mistake, the man clamped his mouth shut, lowered his head, and pretended he hadn't said a thing.

"Ahem."

Into the silence, Colin was the first to speak.

"I heard Julia mention that Dr. Hayes can't drink at our last get-together."

"You should have juice instead."

As he spoke, Colin handed a newly opened bottle of juice to Nora.

Nora felt a bit awkward. She took it with a faint smile and said, "Thank you."

Colin immediately blushed.

The sharp-witted people in the room watched the exchange between Nora and Colin, and a series of teasing noises filled the air.

"So you remember something Julia said? Colin, I know you have a good memory, but do you really remember trivial things like that?"

"Don't tell me you have a little something for our Dr. Hayes?"

"Ooh, no wonder I heard you volunteered for the special task force. Trying to use your position to get close to her? You sly dog, I knew you were up to something!"

Being teased like this by everyone made Colin's face turn beet red.

"Hey, don't talk nonsense!"

"Are we drinking or not?"

"We're drinking!"

Seeing Colin change the subject, everyone shared a knowing smile.

"You can act tough now, but just wait until you're drunk. I bet you'll spill everything."

"Alright everyone, no holding back! Colin's being cagey with us. Let's all go at him. I refuse to believe he can hold out against all of us!"

The lively atmosphere returned.

She trailed off mid-sentence.

Asking him directly if he had looked into her background before would sound too conceited.

If it turned out he just happened to know, she would be incredibly embarrassed.

But besides that, Nora couldn't think of any other reason.

It couldn't be that he suddenly remembered she was the person from that summer, could it?

If that were the case, he wouldn't need to be so secretive and could just say it outright.

The more Nora thought about it, the more confused she became.

She decided to stop thinking about it.

With so much delicious food in front of her, it would be a terrible waste to ignore it in favor of such confusing thoughts.

Nathan saw Nora burying her head in her food, seemingly having forgotten she had started a sentence and not finished it.

He didn't prompt her to continue. Instead, he silently rearranged a few of the dishes on the table.

Soon, Nora noticed that every time she looked up, her favorite dishes were right in front of her. The convenient coincidence helped lift her spirits after a few bad days.
