The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 64

Occasionally, when Nora glanced up, she would see Nathan's profile as he ate seriously.

She would quickly look away, not daring to stare.

She thought no one had noticed her subtle glances, but she soon received a private message from a colleague.

[Dr. Hayes, did you and the Captain know each other before?]

Nora was taken aback. She subconsciously looked around the room.

She didn't know these people well, couldn't match names to faces, let alone their online usernames.

Unsure who had messaged her, Nora thought for a moment and, out of politeness, replied: [No, we don't know each other. Why do you ask?]

[You two seem to have a really good relationship. The Captain has spent the whole evening swapping dishes for you and barely said a word to the guys. And you seem pretty familiar with him too. I just assumed you knew each other from before.]

Nathan had been swapping the dishes for her?

Nora's head shot up, just in time to see Nathan adjusting the position of two dishes.

By sheer coincidence, one of her favorite dishes was moved in front of her, while one she disliked was moved far away.

Nora froze.

She didn't understand what Nathan was doing.

Then she saw him pick up a piece of food with his chopsticks, place it in his own bowl, and eat it quietly.

Nora understood instantly.

Was it possible that Nathan also liked those dishes?

At that thought, Nora's tense body immediately relaxed.

She replied to her colleague: [How could we? The Captain was with the Arvendale Police Department before this, and I've always been in Luminport.]

The colleague probably realized he had misunderstood and sent an emoji back.

[Anyway, everyone is really happy to have you and Nathan on the task force. And please don't worry about the thing with Colin. The kid is young and wears his heart on his sleeve, but he means no harm. You don't have to worry about him causing you any trouble. If it ever comes to that, we'll have a word with him for you.]
