Speak of the devil.
Just as Nora was thinking of Leonard, her phone rang.
Although the caller ID only showed a local unknown number, her gut told her it was Leonard.
Without hesitation, Nora answered the call.
"Nora, I assume you've received the news?"
Nora's fingers tightened around her phone. "What are you trying to do?"
Leonard heard the chill in Nora's voice and chuckled. "I'm not trying to do anything."
Nora couldn't suppress her anger and demanded coldly, "You're not trying to do anything? Then why did you have Riverside Private Hospital kick my mom out?"
"Leonard, you're a monster!"
Being cursed at by his own daughter was a huge blow to his pride. His tone turned sinister. "Nora, you know my patience is limited."
"Agree to return to the Hayes family now, and I'll immediately have your mother transferred to the best hospital under the Hayes Group and arrange for top specialists to see her. Otherwise, you know the consequences."
Even if Leonard didn't spell it out, Nora knew. The worst-case scenario was that Leonard, disregarding any past affection for his ex-wife, would have Grace thrown out onto the street.
For someone with a heart condition, whose bodily functions were deteriorating and who relied on machines to stay alive, the word 'fatal' didn't even begin to cover it.
That was precisely why Leonard dared to use this to threaten Nora.
Leonard knew all too well how deep the bond between Nora and her mother was.
Back when Nora took her college entrance exams, her scores were high enough for the number one university in the country.
But to stay close and take care of her mother, she turned down a top-tier university and chose Luminport University instead.
Although Luminport University was excellent, with a medical school ranked among the top five nationally, it was still a step down from the number one university.
Nora and her mother, Grace, had argued about it several times.
