For a man like that to be trying to steal someone’s girlfriend…
It was simply mind-boggling.
“Come on, knock it off. The captain is probably just paying more attention to Dr. Hayes because she’s a new recruit he personally invited. Let’s keep our minds out of the gutter and not ruin his reputation.”
“Really?”
The person who said it was at a loss for words.
“See? Even you don’t believe it!”
“So what’s the captain’s deal? Is he really trying to pursue Dr. Hayes?”
“Hey, do you think Dr. Hayes knows about this?”
When it came to gossip, the team couldn't contain their curiosity.
Each one of them wanted to unravel the mystery, and the conversation grew lively.
In the end, it was an old veteran detective who stepped in to put a stop to it, bringing the gossip session to a close.
Colin, looking lost, picked up his phone. He wanted to text Nora but felt he had no right to.
“Colin, I’m heading to the flower shop the captain mentioned. Want to come?” a colleague invited.
Colin took a deep breath, pushing all the distracting thoughts from his mind. “Yeah, okay.”

Nora had no idea she had become the subject of the task force’s gossip.
She saw Nathan get into the elevator and followed him in, confused. “Where are we going?”
Nathan pressed a floor button. “To see Mr. Adams.”
Nora’s eyes widened.
“See Mr. Adams?”
Did asking for time off require such a grand gesture?
Seeing her shocked expression, Nathan’s fingers twitched.
“There’s something we need to discuss.”
Nora just said, “Oh.”
She lowered her head, but something still felt off.
He had something to discuss with Mr. Adams.
He got up and walked towards Nathan. Nathan smiled at him. “Mr. Adams.”
“Ah, I’ve been waiting forever for you to finally come back.”
“You stubborn kid. I tried to get you back to Luminport City so many times before, but you refused.”
“Now that you’re back, don’t you go leaving again.”
“I’ve got a lot of promising young talent here waiting for you to lead them.”
Nora tried to make herself as inconspicuous as possible, listening to Mr. Adams speak to Nathan with such familiarity. She was both surprised and impressed.
It was true that talented people were valued everywhere.
Having Nathan back at the Luminport Metropolitan Police Bureau was a huge feather in Mr. Adams’s cap.
No wonder Mr. Adams was so warm towards him.
“And this must be Dr. Hayes?”
Just as Nora was lost in her thoughts, the conversation suddenly shifted to her.
Nora quickly looked up. “Hello, Mr. Adams. I’m Nora.”
