"Mr. Adams..." Nora tried to find another excuse.
She really was busy with her mom's illness and her regular duties as a medical examiner.
If the special task force had a case, she had to help out.
And she was supposed to get married in a month...
Right now, Nora didn't even know who her fiancé was or what he looked like, and she still had to deal with Leonard tonight.
All these things were piling up, making it hard for her to breathe.
She really didn't have the energy to prepare for some competition.
"It's settled then. Nathan, since you and Nora are in the same special task force, you should use your free time to build some rapport. Participate in some partner activities; it will help you sync up quickly."
"I have high hopes for you two. I hope you can bring good news back to our department."
Nathan stood up. "You can count on us, Mr. Adams."
Mr. Adams's smile widened. "Good. You two can get back to work then."
Nathan nodded, glanced at Nora, and was the first to get up and leave.
Nora followed, looking completely dejected.
It wasn't until they were in the elevator that Nora asked wearily, "Nathan, are you really going to participate in that competition?"
Nathan glanced at her. "*We* are."
Nora was distressed. "But I really don't have the time."
Nathan's gaze shifted from her face, and his voice softened slightly. "Is it that you don't have time, or that you don't want to go?"
"Do *you* want to go?" Nora couldn't believe Nathan would enjoy that kind of event.
"Mr. Adams has made a request. We can only follow orders."
Nora's shoulders slumped.
"Yeah, Mr. Adams has made a request..."
Nora truly didn't understand how she had suddenly been railroaded into this.
