Nathan nodded, agreeing with Nora’s assessment.
Seeing that he wasn’t going to speak, Nora broke the silence. “What are your thoughts, Nathan?”
Nathan said, “I have three potential leads right now.”
Nora’s eyes widened. “Three?”
Based on her on-site examination, Nora wasn't completely without ideas, but without the aid of technology, she felt finding the killer would be far from easy.
Yet Nathan had just casually mentioned he had three leads.
“Let’s hear them.”
Nora’s gaze fixed on Nathan’s face, a mix of curiosity and something more complex in her eyes.
“First, we investigate why she was here. It’s obvious she came here with a specific purpose and was well-prepared.”
“That bag of money is the best proof. We can talk to her family or check her phone for relevant messages. That should tell us why she came here and who she was supposed to meet.”
Nora’s eyes lit up.
Of course. As a medical examiner, she was used to approaching cases from the evidence at the scene and the autopsy report, trying to reverse-engineer the crime from the victim’s condition.
Nathan’s approach was that of a proper detective.
Starting with the victim’s personal connections could quickly narrow down the suspect pool.
“And the second lead?”
Seeing the intense curiosity in Nora’s eyes, Nathan unconsciously rubbed his thumb and forefinger together.
“The second lead is the money itself.”
“All bills have serial numbers. The perpetrators took all that cash, and sooner or later, they won’t be able to resist spending it. Tracking the bills by their serial numbers is time-consuming, but it’s a viable way to find the suspects.”
Nathan didn't draw it out, immediately revealing his third idea.
“The third lead is a direct database comparison.”
