As soon as those words were spoken, the faces of everyone present changed.
It was one thing for someone you knew to be murdered.
It was another thing entirely to think you might have indirectly caused their death.
No one could bear the weight of a human life.
The faces of everyone in the crowd grew frantic.
"Officer, is there any news on Chloe's case?"
"Who killed Chloe? She was such a good girl. Who could be so heartless as to do something so cruel?"
The topic started to drift as the crowd's initial fear turned into outrage at the killer.
Seeing the situation spiraling out of control, Nathan spoke in a deep voice, "The case is still under investigation. Please remain calm."
His stern expression was intimidating, and the noisy crowd immediately fell silent.
Nathan glanced at Nora, who instantly understood his meaning. She handed the crowd over to other officers for questioning, and the two of them slipped away toward Chloe's old living quarters.
"Did anything feel off to you?"
Nora nodded. "A lot of things felt off."
For example, the people at the factory seemed to know a lot about the case.
It was as if they even knew how Chloe had died.
But the police had sealed the scene immediately after the incident was reported. The abandoned factory was so remote that they couldn't even find a single witness. So how had details about Chloe's case reached these people's ears?
After Nora voiced her thoughts, Nathan nodded in agreement.
"That is a clear point of suspicion."
"Anything else?"
Nora gave Nathan a suspicious look, then stopped walking to seriously study the man beside her.
Seeing her stop, Nathan stopped as well. He towered over her, his broad frame casting a shadow that didn't feel at all imposing.
But his gaze held no hint of aggression or judgment, so Nora didn't feel any pressure.
She could only see that he was very confused.
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked softly.
Nora pursed her lips and asked with a hint of uncertainty, "Nathan, are you dissatisfied with me in some way?"
