The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 94

Nora also met Chloe's father and stepmother.

"Officer, since Chloe was murdered, we can demand compensation, right?"

"Chloe was our only daughter! Her grades were so good. If she had gone to college, she could have made a lot of money for the family. The killer is too cruel, doing something so horrible to Chloe! We demand the killer be severely punished! We absolutely cannot let that monster get away!"

Chloe's stepmother cried with what seemed like genuine grief.

Standing behind her was a teenage boy, presumably her son and Chloe's stepbrother.

"Alright, Mom. The police will give us an answer. There will be a resolution to Chloe's death. Stop crying and take care of yourself."

At his words, Chloe's stepmother threw herself into her son's arms, her wails growing louder, though she shed almost no tears. It was a hollow, practiced performance—not a single tear in sight.

Nora couldn't stand to watch the woman's clumsy performance and went to see Chloe's biological father instead.

Timothy still seemed to be in a daze from the news of his daughter's death.

When he saw Nora sit down in front of him, his eyes were unfocused.

"Officer… my daughter… was her passing painful?"

Nora's brow furrowed. "Very painful."

"She was beaten to death. She fought back fiercely, but her attacker was extremely brutal. In the end, Chloe essentially died from the pain."

Timothy's whole body trembled. His tall but hunched frame curled in on itself as he let out a wail of anguish and fury.

"How could this happen…"

"Chloe was such a good girl…"

Nora really wanted to ask why, if she was so good, Timothy hadn't let her continue her studies.

But the answer to that question was obvious.

Why bother getting worked up over it?

"Dr. Hayes."

Someone called her from outside the door. Nora responded with a hum, took one last look at Timothy, and stood up to leave.

"There's someone at the station entrance looking for you."

Nora frowned.

"Who is it?"
