When Nora got downstairs, she saw Aaron holding a bag of fruit.
Her brow tightened, and her expression was anything but pleasant.
"Nora!"
Aaron hurried over when he saw her.
"How come you haven't been contacting me? Have you been busy with a lot of cases lately?"
Aaron acted as if nothing had ever happened between them, reaching out to take her hand.
Nora sidestepped him.
Aaron froze. "Nora?"
"I just finished work not long ago," Nora said.
She was a medical examiner, so the meaning of "work" was self-evident.
Aaron's face instantly changed.
He subconsciously wiped his hands on his clothes.
Even though he hadn't even touched Nora, he acted as if he was afraid of getting something on him.
A flash of mockery crossed Nora's eyes.
Aaron's acting wasn't even that good. How had she never noticed how disgusted he was by her before?
When Aaron looked up and saw Nora watching him with a cold expression, he paused before realizing his mistake. He said awkwardly, "Nora, don't misunderstand. That's not what I meant."
In the past, Nora would have just nodded and let it go.
But now, she had no more tolerance for Aaron.
"Then what did you mean?"
"I…"
Aaron bit his lip, a panicked look in his eyes.
"Nora, you have to believe me…"
Nora was losing patience.
She had given Aaron a chance to explain.
