The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 98

Nora’s eyes filled with pity and a sense of disbelief.

No matter the reason, Chloe had been backstabbed by the two people she trusted most.

“We’re here.”

Nathan stepped aside to let Nora enter first.

Nora didn’t object and stepped into the interrogation observation room.

“Dr. Hayes.”

Nora nodded and walked over to an officer who was organizing documents. “What's the situation?”

“Haven't gotten much. Timothy's family all say Chloe had a very regular routine. After she was sent to the factory, they only had the stepson, Eric, go once a month to deliver clean clothes and pick up her wages. Other than that, Timothy and his wife never once went to Chloe's factory and didn't care what kind of life she was living there.”

“What did Eric say?”

“Eric’s story is basically the same as theirs.”

“He also said that the last time he went to see Chloe, she mentioned she might not be working at the factory much longer. Eric didn't think much of it, because he believed Chloe wouldn't dare defy her mother.”

Nora glanced at Eric through the one-way mirror.

He wasn't particularly handsome, just average-looking.

His eyes held the numb and lost expression common in people from impoverished backgrounds.

He looked timid and hesitant.

Nora then looked at Emma.

She still had that timid demeanor, answering whatever she was asked. She didn't look like someone who could lie.

“Can I see her transcript?”

“Here.” The officer handed her a file.
