Everything You Barely Novel 235
Chapter 235
Violet
I woke up still tangled in Rowan’s arms.
I didn’t even remember falling asleep. I just remembered sitting out on the balcony with him while the ocean moved beneath us and warm air
drifted around us and somehow… somewhere in the middle of all of that…
I zonked out and apparently Rowan carried me to bed.
I was starving. Like genuinely starving.
Unfortunately, instead of breakfast, I was currently sitting inside an OBGYN office in Honolulu while my stomach aggressively reminded me
that food existed.
The clinic itself looked absolutely beautiful though. Warm colors. Soft lighting. Huge tropical plants in the corners. Even the ocean artwork on
the walls somehow felt calming.
Nothing about it felt cold or scary. And everyone here had been ridiculously nice.
Especially the receptionist. Lea. Sweetest woman ever.
The second we walked in, she smiled at Camille and me immediately. “Oh honey, sit down and relax. We’ll get you girls taken care of.”
I loved her immediately.
Then Theo and Camille got called back first. Which somehow immediately made me nervous.
I watched them disappear around the hallway corner before looking toward Rowan. “…What if something’s wrong?”
Rowan looked over immediately. “Violet.”
But Lea looked up from the desk and smiled softly. “They’re in good hands, sweetheart.”
nodded.
I still hated waiting, Waiting sucked. Waiting should honestly be illegal. Especially when you hadn’t eaten.
Soon enough though, my name got called. “Violet?”
A woman with long dark hair smiled warmly at us. “Hi, I’m Alani.”
She was so nice it felt suspicious. She took my vitals.
Blood pressure. Weight. Temperature. Normal stuff.
Chapter 235
Then Dr. Mahina Pua came in and I immediately liked her.
She didn’t feel rushed. Didn’t feel fake. Just calm. Comforting. Direct.
After another pregnancy test came back positive, she smiled. “Well, you’re definitely testing positive.”
My whole chest immediately warmed.
Then the ultrasound started. And… Her smile slowly faded. Not completely. Just enough.
Enough that I noticed. Enough that Rowan noticed too.
I looked over nervously. “…Is everything okay?”
Dr. Pua stayed calm while moving the wand slightly. “Hm.”
Oh God.
No.
Not “hm.”
Anything except “hm.”
Then she looked back toward me gently. “I’m having a little trouble locating anything right now.”
My stomach dropped instantly. “What?”
“We’re going to do blood work too, okay?”
Everything after that felt blurry.
冷
Fifteen minutes.
Fifteen horrible minutes.
Rowan held my hand the whole time.
Then finally Dr. Pua came back.
She sat down calmly. “It’s still too early for us to visualize much. Your pregnancy test is positive, but I want blood work and a repeat ultrasound in one to two weeks.”
I stared at her. What do you mean you can’t see anything? My chest immediately tightened. Is something wrong
Beside me, Rowan sat up straighter immediately. “Doctor
“No no,” Dr. Pua said gently, holding up a hand. This doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong
10:29 am
Chapter 235
I stared at her. Then at Rowan. Then back at her.
“Based on timing, I think you’re simply earlier than expected.”
“…Earlier?”
She nodded. “Pregnancy timing isn’t always textbook. Some women ovulate earlier than they realize, some implant earlier, and some simply
produce detectable hCG sooner than average.”
She smiled softly. “We see it more often than people think.”
I blinked. “…So…”
Dr. Pua looked down at my chart. “Your bloodwork confirms elevated hCG levels.”
Then she smiled. “Violet, there isn’t any doubt in my mind that you’re pregnant.”
Silence. Absolute silence.
Then:
“…Wait.”
I looked at Rowan. Slowly. “Pregnant pregnant?”
Rowan stared back at me. “…I feel like that should’ve already been established.”
Dr. Pua looked like she was trying very hard not to laugh.
I wasn’t laughing. Not even a little.
Because suddenly… Suddenly everything slammed into me all at once.
Not baby names. Not nursery colors. Not tiny shoes. Not Andrew Michael. Not Charlotte River.
No.
Actual baby. Actual human baby. Growing. Inside me.
My eyes slowly widened. “Oh my God.”
Rowan immediately looked at me. ‘Violet-
41
“Oh my God.”
My breathing suddenly felt weird. Like my lungs forgot how to function properly.
“I’M PREGNANT.”
Yep.
Chapter 235
There it was. Full panic mode.
I shot upright so fast Rowan immediately sat forward too. “No no no no no no
“Violet.
“I HAVE A BABY INSIDE ME.”
“Yes.”
‘I’M GROWING BONES.”
Rowar blinked. “…Bones?”
“BONES, ROWAN.” I pointed aggressively at my stomach. “There’s eventually going to be bones and organs and little fingers and a tiny brain
and-”
“Oh God.”
I looked toward him in complete betrayal. “OH GOD? YOU DON’T GET TO OH GOD.”
“I wasn’t agreeing with you,” he defended immediately. “I was reacting to your reaction.”
My eyes were getting wider. I could physically feel it. “Rowan, I don’t know how to be a mom.”
He immediately moved closer. “You’ll be amazing.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Violet.”
“No.”
I looked down at my stomach now in complete horror. “What if I accidentally eat something wrong? What if I sleep wrong? What if I trip? What if I sneeze too aggressively?”
Silence.
Rowan stared at me. Dr. Pua stared at me. The nurse near the doorway stared at me.
Sneezing aggressively? Rowan repeated slowly.
“I DON’T KNOW.”
Chapter 235
My eyes were burning now. Great. Fantastic.
Now I was crying too. “I’ve never done this before.” The words came out quieter that time.
This wasn’t panic anymore. Not really. It was fear. Real fear.
Rowan’s expression immediately softened. Completely. He moved closer until his hand slid into mine. “Hey.”
I looked at him.
His thumb rubbed slowly across my knuckles. “Look at me.”
I did.
“You aren’t doing this alone.”
God. Absolutely not. Nope.
My eyes filled immediately.
“We’re doing this together,” he said quietly. “Every appointment. Every stupid craving. Every meltdown.”
A tiny pause.
“Every aggressive sneeze.”
I made a watery offended sound. That asshole.
But Dr. Pua smiled softly then. “Rowan,” she said gently.
He looked up. “This is actually pretty normal.”
He frowned slightly. “What is?”
She glanced toward me. “It doesn’t always emotionally click right away.”
1 looked up slowly.
Dr. Pua folded her hands together. “Sometimes people know they’re pregnant from a test. Sometimes they know when symptoms start.” Then her eyes softened even more. “And sometimes it doesn’t become real until they’re sitting in a doctor’s office hearing someone else say it out
loud.”
I blinked. Oh…. Really?”
She nodded. “Really.” Then she smiled again. “You’re not freaking out because you’re failing.” Another small smile. You’re freaking out because it just became real.”
