Chapter 269: There Will Be No Reverse.
Clara
Acting normal was becoming the hardest part of all this, but also the most necessary.

I was sitting across from Alexander in the meeting room while one of the executives was talking about projections for the next quarter. There were charts on the screen, open folders, freshly poured coffee. And I could barely concentrate. Because every time I looked at him… I remembered what I knew, the evidence I now have…
How can he act like this?
Alexander seemed normal, just continuing to work as if nothing was wrong.
My stomach churned.
“Clara?”
I blinked.
Alexander was looking at me, his gray eyes fixed on me intently.
“What do you think?” he asked.
I glanced quickly at the screen; one of the investors was talking about expanding another business line, capitalizing on the media success in Boston.
I took a slow breath.
“I think we should stabilize the current operation first before thinking about another large expansion.”
My voice came out calm, controlled, perfect.
Alexander barely inclined his head.
“That’s not very ambitious for you.”
I looked directly at him.
“Perhaps I’m learning that growing too fast can also destroy things.”
For a second, I sensed something strange in his expression. Something minimal, almost imperceptible. But it vanished immediately.
The meeting continued, and I nodded when required. I made observations, took notes,

smiled. And the more normal I acted… the more I realized I no longer recognized the man sitting across from me.
When the meeting ended, everyone began to get up. Alexander approached me as he put away some documents.
“Everything alright?”
That question again, always that question.
I glanced at him for just a second.
“Yes. Why wouldn’t it be?”
He held my gaze, as if trying to read me.
“You’ve seemed distant these past few days. Is something bothering you?”
My pulse quickened, but I barely managed a smile.
“It’s been a tough week.”
Alexander didn’t answer right away. Then he nodded slowly.
“Get some rest, then.”
He picked up his folder and left the room.
I stood there for a few more seconds… breathing, trying to control myself. Because the worst part was that he was still acting exactly the same. As if nothing had happened, as if he hadn’t shattered the trust I had in him.
I grabbed my things and left too, but I didn’t go back to my office. I went straight to Mr. Hale’s office. The chairman of the board.
The secretary let me in as soon as she saw me.
Hale looked up from some documents when I entered.
“Clara.”
“I need to talk to you.”
My tone must have told him immediately that this wasn’t a casual conversation.
The man slowly closed the folder in front of him.
“Take a seat.”

But I shook my head; I didn’t want to sit down. I felt too much tension inside my body. Too
much pent-up anger.
“Alexander can’t stay with this company.”
The words came out direct, without mincing words. Mr. Hale frowned immediately.
“Clara…”
“I’m not speaking from emotion.”
“I hope so.”
His response was firm, professional.
I looked at him intently.
“I have proof that he manipulated information in Boston.”
I saw his expression change slightly. Not complete surprise, but concern. Even so, he shook his head slowly.
“This isn’t something to be taken lightly.”
Of course not. Alexander had built too much within the company. He had weight, influence,
power.
Hale sighed and stood up slowly.
“Alexander is an important part of this company.”
I let out a small, bitter laugh, humorless, joyless.
“I thought the same thing.”
The man remained silent.
And then I continued: “But a key player can’t act above the company.”
Hale clasped his hands in front of him.
“What kind of evidence do you have?”
My fingers slowly closed around the folder I was carrying.
“Enough to worry me.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”

I looked directly at him.
“Emails. Document tampering. Evidence of operational sabotage. Deliberately altered
information.”
The silence between us grew heavy.

Hale watched me for a long time. As if trying to determine if I was speaking from anger… or
from facts.
“Are you absolutely sure about this?”
I thought about the elevator, about Howard. About the emails, about Vanessa talking to him. that morning in his office. I couldn’t see him the same way anymore, I couldn’t… why were they close? What could they possibly be saying about me? Why did they have to mention me?
“Yes.”
The director walked slowly to the window.
“This could destroy the company if it’s mishandled.”
“Or it could save it.”
He closed his eyes for a second, then looked back at me.
“Speak with Alexander first.”
I shook my head immediately.
“No.”
“Clara…”
“I’m not going to give him the chance to manipulate this.”
Hale sighed wearily.
“If there’s a conflict between you, it can still be resolved internally without escalating.”
“It already escalated when he jeopardized the project.”
My voice came out harsher this time, colder. Because the more I talked about it… the more aware I became of how serious everything had been.
Hale remained silent, and I understood something important. He didn’t want to confront Alexander. Not yet, because even now… I still saw him as indispensable.

I sensed he doubted my words; I could see his disbelief. That hurt more than I expected, because I had seen it that way too.
I took a deep breath, then looked up.
“I think I need to make this much more formal.”
I saw immediate tension in his face.
“Clara…”
“I want to call an extraordinary board meeting.”
Mr. Hale’s eyes widened slightly.
“That’s a serious corporate accusation.”
“I know.”
“And once you start this, there’s no going back.”
My throat closed for barely a second, because yes. It was true. After this… Alexander and I would never work the same way again. Never. But it was too late for regrets.
I stood up slowly.
“I need to call the meeting.”
Hale watched me silently, and for the first time since I walked in there… I saw real concern in his eyes. Not for the company, not entirely. But for what was about to unfold.
I grabbed my folder, turned around, and left the office.
