The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 314

Alaina's smile instantly froze. Quickly masking her disappointment, she offered a warm smile. "That's fine, focus on your work. I have things to do too. I need to organize my thoughts for the photolithography project before my leave is over."

She told herself that keeping busy would be good for Silas—it would help him process the grief of losing his mother much faster.

Silas gave her hand a brief squeeze. "I have something to take care of right now. Get some rest."

With that, he turned and left.

Alaina stood by the staircase on the second floor, a suffocating wave of despair washing over her.

Over the next few days, Silas was as good as his word, leaving before dawn and returning late into the night.

Whenever Alaina woke up, the space beside her was already cold.

She forced herself to stay awake late one night, just to wish him a good night, but even that simple hope was thwarted.

She only felt a sense of relief when she half-woke in the early hours to see his familiar sleeping face next to her.

One morning, Alaina deliberately woke up extra early, wanting to share breakfast with him and see him off to work.

A lavish breakfast was set on the table, but she waited until the food went completely cold without catching a glimpse of him coming down the stairs.

When Silas finally appeared, he was in a rush. On his way out, his gaze merely grazed past her. There was no gentle goodbye, no tender reassurance—only an aloof distance that completely ignored the naked disappointment in her eyes. All he left her with was a dismissive, "Eat while it's hot."

Late that night, Alaina sat alone in the living room. She absentmindedly traced the screen of her phone, straining her ears for any sound outside, desperate for his return.

It was only when the neighborhood lights had faded to black that she finally heard his heavy, exhausted footsteps approaching the door.

He pushed the door open, but rather than speaking to her, he merely gave a terse nod and headed straight for the bedroom.
