"I don't know." Riley shot another look at Sebastian. "You'll have to ask him."
Sebastian: ...
Eleanor immediately whirled on him. "Is she pregnant? You awful boy, she is so young! How could you?" Despite the scolding words, she was practically vibrating with happiness. "How could you hide something so massive from me?"
She shoved Alora back into Riley's arms. "Hold her. I'm calling Winona right now. She's so young, she must be terrified finding out she's pregnant. I have to comfort her."
Sebastian pinched the bridge of his nose in sheer exasperation. "Grandma, she isn't pregnant."
The joy on Eleanor's face instantly shattered. "Are you absolutely sure?"
He nodded. "Positive." He then turned his dark gaze directly onto Riley.
Riley read a mix of exasperation, amusement, and a dangerously deep intensity in his eyes that she couldn't quite decipher. Embarrassed, she immediately dropped her gaze to the baby in her arms.
His girlfriend was nauseous, and they were in a passionate relationship. It was completely logical for her to make that assumption, wasn't it?
Disappointment washed over Eleanor. She wanted to curse him for being so useless, but knowing how young Winona was, she couldn't really complain. She shot him a withering glare, then grabbed Riley's hand and dragged her toward the dining room.
While they ate, a torrential downpour started outside. By the time they finished, the rain showed absolutely no signs of stopping.
Looking out the window, Eleanor said to them, "The storm is too heavy. It's not safe to drive. You two shouldn't head back to the city tonight. Just stay here."
Sebastian nodded. "Alright."
Worry creased Riley's brow. She had work tomorrow. The estate was miles away from downtown. Would she make it in time?
"I'll drive you tomorrow. You won't be late."
Riley stared at him in shock. Did this man read minds? How did he always know exactly what she was thinking?
Eleanor smiled gently. "Don't worry, my dear. Sebastian stays here occasionally, and he's never been late to work."
Riley nodded. "Thank you for the hospitality."
"It's no trouble at all." Eleanor turned to the maid. "Prepare a guest room."
Sebastian interjected, "We have to be up incredibly early tomorrow. Let Riley and the baby sleep at my place so we don't wake you."
Eleanor looked at him, thoroughly stunned. No woman had ever slept in his private residence. Even when Winona visited, she stayed in the main house. Yet he was actually volunteering to let Riley and her baby stay there.
She obviously didn't suspect her grandson had any ulterior motives regarding Riley; she was simply surprised.
It seemed he still held a deep sense of loyalty to the Landon family. Even though Riley was divorced, he was still going out of his way to take care of his old friend's ex-wife and child.
They did have to wake up early tomorrow to drop Alora off at home first. Staying with Sebastian would undeniably save a lot of time. But Riley remembered Mrs. Gable mentioning that no one was allowed inside his private residence, Willow Grove, without his explicit permission. It clearly wasn't a place just anyone could enter.
