Startled by the grim severity in Riley's eyes, Holly paused for a second before immediately leading her toward the rooftop.

Riley stepped out onto the terrace. Under the blazing sun, a heavily overweight woman stood precariously on the ledge of the perimeter wall.

The wind howled across the roof, whipping her caramel-colored clothes through the air. Set against the vast blue sky, she looked incredibly small, as if a single gust of wind could swallow her up and erase her from the world.

The rooftop felt like a furnace baking under the fierce sun, waves of heat radiating through the air.

Her heart hammering against her ribs, Riley quickly stepped toward the woman. But the moment she reached the center of the terrace, Jenna shouted from the ledge, "Stop! Take one more step and I'll jump!"

Riley immediately stopped in her tracks and said in a soothing voice, "I won't come any closer. Just calm down. We can talk about this."

Jenna's face was deathly pale, her eyes dull and lifeless. Staring at Riley, an unfamiliar face in a white coat, her agitation only grew. "Who are you? You changed my doctor again! I said I didn't want a new doctor, I want new medication!"

"I'm your attending physician. My name is Riley Vance."

Beside her, Holly hurriedly whispered, "Dr. Vance, how can you admit to being her attending right now? If something happens..."

"Dr. Xavier," Riley cut her off, shaking her head and silencing her with a stern look.

Riley knew Holly meant well and didn't want her taking the blame, but right now, the patient's mind was incredibly fragile and sensitive. After making a scene multiple times to no avail, she likely felt that the hospital had abandoned her.

She needed to give the woman an anchor, to let her know that the hospital hadn't tossed her aside and that someone was taking responsibility for her.
