Suddenly, Sebastian's phone shattered the silence.
Snapping out of her trance, Riley violently yanked her hands back, forcing a mask of utter calm. "I'm fine. You should answer that."
Sebastian pulled his phone from his pocket.
Riley caught a glimpse of the caller ID: Winona. "That's probably Winona at the gate."
Sebastian shot her a deeply confused look, but swiped to answer. Winona's bright, bubbly voice filtered through the speaker. "Bastian! I'm at the gates of The Cloudview Terrace, but security won't let me in. Tell them to open up!"
"Put the guard on the phone." Sebastian authorized her entry, hung up, and turned a piercing stare on Riley. "Explain."
"We were supposed to go shopping today, but then Mr. Finch called and said you were having a rough day, so I came here instead. I texted her to just come meet us here."
Sebastian's jaw tightened slightly, but he gave a curt nod.
The ghost of his cool breath still lingered on her fingers. Being this close to him was shredding her nerves. "You eat your pasta. I'll go wash some fruit." She turned and practically bolted into the kitchen.
She yanked open the fridge, grabbed an armful of fruit, and practically threw it into the sink to wash.
As the cold water ran over her hands, her mind aggressively replayed the image of him blowing on her burns, followed instantly by the HD footage of his exposed chest.
She shook her head violently, desperate to scrub the highly inappropriate thoughts from her brain.
A few minutes later, the doorbell chimed, followed by Winona's voice echoing through the apartment.
Riley aggressively chopped a watermelon, threw it onto a platter with the rest of the fruit, and carried it out to the living room. Winona was standing near the sofa, complaining loudly about the brutal summer heat.
But when Riley looked at Sebastian, she froze.
