The Devil's Betrothed novel Chapter 813

Chapter 813: Draven’s Decision

Meanwhile, Morpheus finally managed to reach her path where the phoenix was flying toward him, her mouth was letting out the destructive flames of hellfire.

"Ember," he called out, looking straight at her though there was so much distance between them. "You have to stop!" he commanded.

This time, her pupils, filled with fire, finally constricted as she recognized him. The bond between them didn’t let him go unnoticed to her.

"Come to me. You have to stop," he called from a distance, his hands raised in her direction, asking her to come into his arms.

But to his shock, she changed her path all of a sudden and flew in a different direction. It was clear she recognized her mate and didn’t wish to harm him, but at the same time, she couldn’t stop from taking her revenge.

Morpheus smiled. "At least you recognized me even when you are not yourself. What more could I ever wish for? My mate values me, can’t forget me."

With newfound determination, he flew in another direction. And this time, he was not going to let her go away from him. She had to come to him, let him take his last breaths when she was close to him.

Just then, Draven, in his dragon form, connected the mind link with Morpheus as he tried to follow him to stop him. But Ember and Morpheus were already far away.

"What are you doing, Morph?" Draven asked him through the mind link.

"Stopping our mate," Morpheus’s reply came through.

"You can’t," Draven warned him coldly.

"At this moment, only I can," Morpheus replied, and Draven watched him moving even faster toward Ember.

"Wait for me," Draven told him. "You alone are not enough."

"We can’t afford to make her lose both her mates, so you better stay in your place," Morpheus replied, and cut the mind link after saying the last thing: "Just tell her to not cry for me. As my life was always meant to end this way."

"I won’t let you die this time," Draven declared to himself and continued flying in Morpheus’s direction.

Morpheus was too smart to fail this time, as he knew exactly what to do. He was not going to give her a chance to change her path again.

Expert in flying, he shifted his course and stopped dead in her path, right in front of her. "Ember, stop! Please," he said.

She wanted to turn and change direction, but it was too late. The hellfire flames she spat were already upon him, ready to burn him entirely in the next instant.

Morpheus didn’t waver. He stood his ground and repeated, "Stop, for my sake. My last wish I ask of you."

She let out a loud screech as the hellfire was about to engulf him. She wanted to stop it, but it was too late.

Morpheus closed his eyes, ready to let go, but—

Boom!
