Chapter 108
Everyone was magnetized to the image on Vera’s phone.
Abigail leaned in closer, her eyes sparkling with clear envy and desire. “How much is it?” she demanded, voice rising with excitement. “I must get it. It’s perfect for me.”
Vera scoffed lightly, shaking her head with a knowing smile. “This necklace is so expensive, it’s not something you can just pay for right away. Maybe installments, but even those would stretch most people.”
Abigail stiffened, her face flushing with indignation. “I can pay for it! I’m not the poor Abigail you used to know in school. My husband owns the biggest lottery hub in this city. Tell me the amount, i will pay for it right now.”
Vera raised her hands placatingly. “Actually, I’m not even looking down on you. The money here is heavy. Abigail, or anyone here, can’t just buy it like that. It’s exclusive for a reason.”
At that moment, Travis chimed in with a loud, confident laugh. “What? Anyone here can’t buy it? You must be belittling my fiancée here. She is so rich, something like this doesn’t freak her out. She can pay in one swipe.”
Everyone burst into laughter, some clapping Travis on the back. “Stop bragging, man!” one guy called out, though the teasing carried a hint of curiosity.
“She will buy in one swipe?. common!”.
Jessica felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her. She tugged at Travis’s sleeve subtly, wanting him to stop, but he was on a roll. “She is the CEO of Vortex Consortium,” he announced proudly.
The name instantly ignited recognition, especially among the business personnel at the table. Whispers turned into excited murmurs.
“Wow, this is her?” a woman exclaimed.
“The Jessica? I’ve read about your company’s latest expansions.” They started greeting her politely, nodding with respect.
“Travis is so lucky,” another added, patting him on the shoulder.
Travis basked in the limelight, grinning widely as he pulled Jessica closer again. But Jessica was brewing with anger, her jaw tight. The attention felt suffocating, especially with Marcus’s calm gaze still on her from across the table.
Abigail, who hated when someone stole the spotlight from her, scoffed loudly. “Well, that doesn’t mean she can buy the necklace. Not all the money a business personnel owns belongs to her personally.”
Jessica immediately grew irritated by Abigail’s proud and loud demeanor. The woman’s constant jabs were getting under her skin.

Meanwhile, another person chimed in eagerly. “Vera, state the amount. I can buy it for my wife.”
Instantly, the big personalities in the gathering started asking about it, their competitive sides flaring up. Offers flew around the table as egos clashed subtly.
“I can buy it also!”.
“me also!”.
Vera smiled, loving the energy she had sparked. “Okay, let’s do this. I will call the amount. Whoever can buy it right now will receive a bow from everyone here, and we will serve him or her throughout the night.”
Everyone screamed in agreement. “Okay, that sounds fun! Call the amount!”.
“Yes. I am loving this!”.
T Jessica’s interest peaked immediately. She didn’t want someone like Abigail or these others people taking spotlight, and bowing for her and service all night. She would definitely buy it if it came to that, just to shut them up.
But Betty was irritated by the whole spectacle. She turned to Marcus, her voice low and urgent. “Marcus, let’s just leave.” As she was about to stand, Abigail scoffed sharply.
“Betty, are you running away?”.
Everyone turned to Betty at once, the table’s energy shifting sharply from the necklace excitement to this new confrontation.
Betty scoffed, her voice laced with disgust as she addressed the group. “This game just reeks of classism and arrogance. It doesn’t make sense at all. So I won’t participate.”
Abigail let out a loud, mocking laugh that cut through the murmurs. “Haha! You must be embarrassed because you know you will never have such an amount. When we were in school then, you always bragged, carrying those expensive bags and acting superior. Now you are poor, you can’t even participate in this simple game.”
Betty frowned in anger, her fists clenching slightly under the table. It was obvious Abigail still hated her with a passion that hadn’t faded over the years.
Abigail leaned forward, not done yet. “The man you even brought isn’t even classy enough to stay in this setting You both are running away. He isn’t like that old boyfriend of yours who died.”
The words landed like a slap Betty’s eyes flashed with fury. “Abigail, say one more thing and I will rip your lips off.”
Abigail smirked, unfazed. “Yeah, that’s only what you will do. You can’t even stay to prove us wrong. Just get your stinky, dirty lowlife out of here!”
The tension thickened, several guests shifting uncomfortably in their seats. Vera quickly cautioned Abigail, her tone sharp. “Hey, that’s enough. If you say one more thing, I will send you out. We aren’t here
